EXTENDED/RESERVE POLICE ACADEMY

The extended/reserve police academy is designed to allow persons who must maintain full time employment the opportunity to complete police academy training.  The class meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:00PM until 11:00PM and alternate Sundays from 7:00AM until 4:30PM.  The academy begins in January and ends in November.

The program is also designed to meet the needs of those aspiring to be Level III, Level II, or Level I police reserve officers.  To qualify as a Level III police reserve officer, one must complete parts 1 & 2 of the Level III Module which consists of 162 hours of training.  To qualify as a Level II police reserve officer, one must complete parts 1 & 2 of the Level III Module AND the Level II Module which consists of an additional 228 hours of training.

To qualify as a Level I police reserve officer or a full time sworn police officer, one must complete parts 1 & 2 of the Level III Module, the Level II Module, AND the Level I Module which consists of  an additional 340 hours of training.  The Modules do not have to be completed at one time.  For instance one could complete Levels III & II, leave the program and then return the next year to complete Level I.  Also the Modules do not need to be completed at the same training facility.  For instance one could complete Level III at Rio Hondo and then take Level II and Level I at another training facility.

The prerequisites for attending the extended/reserve police academy are the same as those for the intensive academy.  You must attend the 24 hour World of Criminal Justice Course, obtain a Department of Justice clearance for firearms training, and obtain a medical clearance.
