Don Mason has worked at Rio Hondo College for 16 years. He started his career at Rio Hondo as a tactical officer in the police academy. Soon after, he became an adjunct instructor teaching in the police academy in the following areas: officer safety and field tactics, weaponless defense, juvenile procedures, custody, report writing, criminal law, and community policing. His full time teaching assignments have included introduction to administration of justice, criminal procedures, legal aspects of evidence, and criminal investigation. He has also taught in the supervisor's course and field training officer course.
He has a Masters of Science Degree in Education with a specialization in Technology. In addition to his teaching duties, he has been a program coordinator in the Basic Police Academy and currently a program coordinator of online courses. Don has 19 years of law enforcement experience. He retired at the rank of Sergeant. He has worked various assignments including patrol, campus officer; field training officer, training sergeant, and special response team sergeant.
